Xxx: Once bread was surrounded with a sort of sacrum, was a living symbol of wealth. It was kissed, every bit had to be used. It was unearthly respected. Today we can see bread in refuse dumps, in staircases, and many more worthy places.

Iza: I live abroad at the moment and of all polish food, I miss bread the most, the most common white ‘oliwski’ with crispy skin, where every slice has its value.

Olga: Still many people think that bread should not be thrown away and tell their children not to – I like that approach very much. You just have to tell them that in poor countries for a small piece of bread people would fight, and that works. Bread that is not good for eating can be used in other ways, or ultimately put beside the tip – somebody will always take it. There is no huge worship for bread but as ‘our common bread’ it is respected.

Lulka: I live in a town. At my house bread is put aside and given to someone. I know that an elderly lady who comes to us for bread for animals, does not throw bread out, even if it is mouldy, but burns it. In the campus, which I live in now, nobody throws out bread. It is put aside and once in a while somebody takes it for someone else :-).
