Our grandmothers treated bread with great respect. In the situation that it fell on the ground they picked it up and kissed it. Today, when my bread falls, I throw it to the tip without any doubt.
People that had respect for bread made the sign of the cross before cutting it. Today in my family a special machine cuts it. The same is done in bakeries and wholesale firms. In my opinion in none of those places a sign of the cross is being made before cutting bread.
During the important festivity of Christmas Eve, people split wafers as a sign of peace. This custom has survived in catholic families to this day. This is the only situation in which I see the holiness and importance of bread.
Summing up, bread is only food for me. It is hard to see its quality when it is so common. In bakeries there are piles of loafs and every one is very cheap. In the past people had to work hard to have bread. Maybe it is easier to measure its qualities when you have to work very hard to have it. Of the old respect towards bread only remind me catholic customs.

Patryk Lizura: In my family bread is something very important, something that can’t be just thrown out when there are only leftovers. In my home when bread falls down on the ground it is picked up and kissed. This way we show respect to Christ and religion in which we believe.
