Beliefs and rituals

Bread
was often used as a ritual gift. People took it with them when they went for
matchmaking, leaving it as a sacrifice in the field, forest or other
important places. They were feeding it not only to living people but also to
the dead by putting it on the graves of their relatives. They were pouring
bits on graves for birds, which were animating the souls of the dead. |

It
was believed that bread could protect. When a person from a family was
leaving he was getting a piece of bread. People believed that with this
piece of bread the person would return home safely. They put it in the
cradle with a newly born child or they took it with them when a storm was
coming. |

Special qualities were added to that loaf which was burnt while baking. It was given to an individual who has lost a very close person so that he can forget about that person. |
